There apparently is a small, but popular and steadily growing movement in the Great State of Vermont for secession from the U.S..
Um, I think this has been tried before.
A friendly message to our Green Mountain State friends:
Hey Vermont, you're dumb. Nobody cares, and there are more important things to worry about. You can't "take your ball and go home" when you are a part of the United States of America. If you don't like it, move to Canada; but, we're keeping your $hit. I thought your motto was "Freedom and UNITY".
P.S. - Quit smoking all the dope. The rest of the country would like to have some, and it seems to be effecting your judgement.

You're right, succession was tried before. But the U.S. did not win an argument against it, they maintained the union at the point of a gun. Many gun's in fact. Scholars still debate the succession issue, it is far from resolved.
Nowhere in the Constitution does it forbid succession. The States individually decided to ratify the constitution and join the union, they should have the same right to suceed. Kind of like a marriage, you have the freedom to join in a marriage, and the freedom to leave it as well if you find it's not working out.
And how do you think it'll be solved this time? Again, with a gun. Listen, lets not be stupid. Do you really think that no matter what legal reason anyone came up with, that the U.S. Government would allow Vermont to peacefully remove themselves from the Union?
You are absolutely right, legal scholars can't agree if succession is illegal or not; as the U.S. Constitution does not specifically forbid it; but, if you think that any state could realistically succeed from the Union at this point without a major continuity-of-federal-government problem (nuclear war, horrific natural disaster, etc.) then you're as fucked in the head as our stoned Green Mountain State friends.
The goal of this blog is to teach people to see the world in a realistic way. We waste our time and energy on a lot of worthless bullshit. Maybe we could be spending our time more wisely. I hope you will.
If we want to do something that is a waste of time, why don't we impeach the President? It would make a LOT of people feel better, but would be about as good for the country as a set of lips on a chicken. Neat, but not all the important.

I'm beginning to think everyone in the US slept during their Civics classes...
The Southern Succession did not succeed for one reason - economics. Sure, the North had the industrial upper hand, but the South was what supported it.
Let's face it - the United States is not, and has not been for some time, a democracy. It's called an oligarchy, people. According to our history and our founding fathers, we the moral and political obligation to deny or withdraw from a government that has become corrupt or dangerous. That point was passed years ago.
Kudos to Vermont!
I believe your comments on people
that smoke pot are completely
not called for...in many cases
smoking weed has helped people
have a "clearer" vision...Do
not knock it, until you have
tried it!!! As for succession
goes, I am all for it. Why on
earth do I want to send my money
to a bunch of idiots in Washington
that don't do dick with it, except
get us involved in 2 losing wars,
at a cost of over 800 BILLION
dollars (that 800,000 million for
those of you who didn't go to
math class)....And all they can
ever say is "well Freedom isn't
free"...I say bullshit, freedom
is about the only thing around
that is Free! I think you comments
are also wrong in the sense that if
enough states felt that washington
was bogus and all business controlled, we would succeed....and
do you honestly think that a
military pilot will bomb LA because some idiot in washington told them
too...Well try it..because California will shot that fucking plane out of the sky...This is
a real possibilty in our life time...Think of all the other Empires in our time...all of the
have broken up and split...
Who says I don't smoke weed? I just don't smoke enough of it to think that succession is a great idea. I live in one of the strongest Republican counties in one of the strongest Republican states...I don't agree with any of my neighbors; should I remove myself from the Union? Probably not. If Vermont removes itself from the Union, who will protect all your freedoms to be a dumbass? Asshole.
Brandon, your comments would have some merit if we still had the freedoms we were garunteed with the constitution and the bill of rights. But we don't and our goverment is the one destroying and pulling them out from underneath us. So maybe the people of Vermont may not be able to protect their freedoms but at least they are trying to find a way to get their freedoms and their right to those freedoms back. Since we live in a country with only one political party and only one agenda it makes since that you would have to split away from it to get anything accomplished. And maybe YOU should lay down the hashpipe because it HAS distorted your thinking. For some of us it might clear vision. But corporate billboards seem to have ecplipsed the horizon for you.
Dear Anonymous,
So you're ready to say "hey, everybody out of the pool!", you want to take your ball and go home; you're willing to declare that this great Constitutional experiment is over, that the country can't be fixed. I'm not ready to give up and move to Canada just yet, or declare Indiana a distinct and seperate country - landlocked countries have a rougher time competeting on a global scale. Let's concentrate our energies on electing a President that doesn't see the office as a way to line his buddies pockets with cash. Let's elect a Congress that's not too pussified to stand up to the executive branch when it needs stood up to (pretty much every day). Let's give it another go before we dissolve the union. Come on Vermont, Freedom and Unity! Unity! Duh, its right in the motto.
Think of it this way, Vermont can't suceed without many other of the several states trying it. So goes VT, so goes the nation and all that. Maybe Vermonters are ready for a new Revolutionary War, but I don't think the rest of the nation is. It is easier to fix it than to wipe the slate clean and start over again. Imagine how bloody a civil/revolutionary war with nukes would be.
Brandon.
Whoever made the comment about the one political party is a retard, plain and simple. There are 2 parties, or have you missed the last election. We've just been forced to pick the lesser of 2 evils. The last democrat in the house was up for impeachment, and the next president will be a democrat because people don't like Bush (the republican for those of you who don't know the different political parties). The reason why congress is taking away all the freedoms of the constitution is because people missuse the Bill of Rights by pouring money into slandering someone and calling it freedom of speech. Maybe if the democrats would get over and stop bitching about Kerry's less than worthwhile campaign, they could work together with the republicans and actually accomplish something for once. But everytime one side tries to compromise, the other side throws up a huge scandal. I'm a completely different anonymous and I support a lot of what Brandon is saying..except for maybe the weed part. You tards should find the book the american pageant, 12th edition. Read up on some history and then tell me that these are hard times.
