In a nationally televised news conference this morning, President Bush told the American public to prepare for a tough summer in Iraq. He said that the next few months are critical, and his 30,000 troop buildup would be in place by June. Democrats in the Congress gave up on a plan to force a withdrawal date and instead inserted language with timetables and goals for the Iraqi government into the war funding bill currently on the floor of the House.

Israeli forces arrested a Palestinian cabinet minister and 30 others in raids in the troubled West Bank region. After several failed cease fires, heavy fighting continues in that area.

Indiana News
A southern Indiana soldier was killed in Iraq on Tuesday. Twenty-nine year old Sgt. Joe Montgomery, originally from Scotsburg, IN, was killed instantly Tuesday as he was working to clear underground explosives. During the operation, Sgt. Montgomery tripped one of the explosive devices and was killed in the detonation. Sgt. Montgomery will be interred in Scotsburg at a date to be determined later.
