Wiccans Get Some Federal Recognition

After more headache and hassle than should have been necessary, the pentacle is finally on the federal government's list of approved religious emblems to mark the gravestones of fallen service personnel.

This is a huge leap in civil liberties for folks who practice alternative spirituality, but I don't think we Americans should go crazy in congratulating ourselves at how inclusive we are just yet. Please, let's remember that it took nearly a decade for the "pentacle quest" to come to fruition. Furthermore, Wicca is one subset of Paganism, and the pentacle is one of many symbols that Pagans use. If the "Big Three" (Christianity, Judaism and Islam) can have 40 symbols for just one God, shouldn't Pagans have been given a lot more to work with?

Seriously, though, it's a step in the right direction, but when our "fearless leader" has such a hard time recognizing that Wicca is a legitimate religion, we have a long way to go.

Mormons get their own symbol and Pagans had to wait? If there were ever a crazy, made-up religion it is LDS.

Why can't we just let anyone put whatever they wish on their headstone? How is it bothering the neighbors? The neighbors should be dead unless something went horribly wrong.

I was browsing through the religious symbols that Laurelei linked to, and I noticed that Athiests have a religious symbol. That's hilarious.

I've decided that my religion's (The Church of 420 - I just made that up, can you tell?) symbol should be a hand extending its middle-finger...flipping off the world.
